WISCONSIN BADGER

Wisconsin's nickname as most people know is the Badger State. The saying originates back in history to when Wisconsinites were mining for lead and then living in underground shelters during the winter like Badgers do. Badgers actually spend most of their life living underground, rarely ever seen above ground because they are nocturnal (active at night). They have been studied to live in dry grassland habitats and hunt small animals like the 13-lined ground squirrel in both summer and winter. They can quickly dig borrows to hid from predators and can even dig through two inch thick concrete!
